What is Search Engine and how it helps to find business Online?
Well, the first search engine was a program called Archie, which debuted in 1990 and allowed people to access and search for filenames, which were essentially the names of web pages. But Archie can’t tell you what’s on those pages. After several decades, search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo!, Ask.com, AOL, Baidu, and Yandex have come a long way. These search engines use extremely complex computer programs to sort through large numbers of web pages.
How does a Search Engine work?
Each search engine uses its own software, but its operations are quite similar.
They all perform three tasks:
- First, they check the content they discover and are allowed to see (this is called crawling).
- Second, they rank each piece of content (this is called indexing).
- And third, they decide what content is most useful to searchers (this is called ranking).
Let’s take a closer look at how they work. Search engines “crawl” the Internet to discover content, such as web pages, images, and videos. Each search engine uses computer programs called “bots” (short for robots), “crawlers” or “crawlers” to navigate through the pages.
The bots jump from page to page following links to other pages. These shows never stop; Their sole purpose is to visit and revisit the pages in search of new links and content to index. Indexing is the second part of the process. The index is a huge list of all the websites and content found by the bot. Search engines use this index as a source of information to display on search results pages. But not everything the bot finds is included in the search engine’s index.
